NEC endorses draft NV20:2020 blueprint
Abuja, October, 2009: The National Economic Council (NEC), comprising state governors and chaired by Vice
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has endorsed the draft report of the National Economic Blueprint otherwise
known as NV20:2020 document at its last meeting held on 6 October, 2009 at the State House in Abuja.
The endorsement followed a presentation made to the council by the Minister of National Planning, Dr.Shamsuddeen
Usman, on the draft report and the way forward. Several council members made input ahead of the endorsement which
would now be incorporated into the document as part of the National Planning Commission's validation process of the
blueprint.
Most of the views focused on what needed to be done to ensure the full implementation of the document, including the
need for States to be given the opportunity to incorporate new sub-national data into their documents in the light of the
postulations by the macro-economic framework designed for the NV20:2020 document.
Earlier, states were involved in drafting the report through their Stakeholder Development Committees who worked
towards the formulation of similar blueprints by all states for inclusion into the final national blueprint. These reports
had been received from the all states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, ahead of the October
6th NEC meeting.
''We believe we now have a perspective plan that will drive the fortunes of this country'', national planning minister
Usman told journalists following the endorsement, while counselling them on the need to always emphasise the
positives about Nigeria so as to move it forward.
The validation phase of the draft document, which began with similar presentations to the Economic Management
Team headed by the Minister of Finance, the National Council on the Vision headed by President Umaru Musa YarAdua,
also witnesssed presentations to and endorsement of the leadership of the Senate and the House of Representatives
on Oct. 12 and Oct. 13, respectively
