NV 20:2020: Central Working Group begins work Aug.17
Abuja, August, 2009: The Central Working Group (CWG) of the NV 20:2020 inaugurated on 10th August, 2009, by the Minister of National Planning, Dr. Shamsuddeen Usman, is to begin its assignment on Monday 17th August, 2009.
Headed by retired Chief justice of the Federation, Justice Salihu Alfa Belgore (GCON), the 33-member CWG is charged with the responsibility of harmonizing all input received towards the formulation of a viable vision blueprint that has been schedule for launch on 1st October, 2009 by President Umaru Musa YarAdua.
To be harmonized are input from 29 National Technical Working Groups (NTWGs), 12 Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and Stakeholder development Committees in the 36 states and Abuja, and similar committees in the Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Whilst the NTWGs covered 29 thematic areas, the 12 SIGs engaged included the Media, Women, Youth, Persons With Disability (PWDs), Labour, the Legislature, Judiciary, Security, Traditional Rulers, Religious organisations, Civil Service and Nigerians in the Diaspora (NIDs).
Speaking at the inauguration, Usman said that membership of the CWG was drawn from both the private and public sectors ‘’giving cognizance to previous commitment to national service and experience in National development planning’’.
‘’In composing the CWG, we have again cast out net far and wide. We have deliberated extensively and carefully to ensure that as much as possible, we captured and selected the best subject matters experts in their fields for the enormous task at hand’’.
He said the group had been sub-divided into three sub-groups to facilitate their assignments under a Chief Coordinator, Dr. Dotun Suleiman, and assisted by three coordinators for the sub-groups and three technical report writers.
The sub-groups, with clear terms of reference, have further been classified under themes that include: ‘’Guaranteeing the productivity and well-being of our people’’, Optimising our key sources of economic growth’’ and ‘’Fostering sustainable social and economic development’’.
The CWG has until 3rd September, 2009 to complete its assignment.
It is expected that by 20th August, 2009, an editorial team would be inaugurated that would proof read and produce a clean copy of the vision 2020 document.
