V2020 Stakeholder Committees submit reports

Abuja, August, 2009: No fewer than 31 Stakeholder Development Committees (SDCs) of the NV2020 in the 36 states of the federation have submitted their vision input to the final document ahead of the Aug.14 deadline set by the National Planning Commission (NPC). The 36 states and Abuja were earlier engaged in zonal workshops between June 22 and June 30 to apprise them of the Visioning process and solicit their input into the final document. All the states comprising the North Central, North West, South West, South South and South East attended the first round of the zonal workshops, whilst in the North east, which recorded 50 percent attendance, had only Adamawa, Gombe and Taraba states in attendance. A make up workshop was held in Abuja between July 10th and July 11th for Bauchi, Borno, Yobe and the FCT who were unable to participate in the first round of the workshops. A second round workshop was also held between 30th July and 6th August, 2009 at the various geo-political zones to validate the submissions of the states. Osun state’s report, which was submitted on 15th July duly signed by the state governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, was the first to be received by the Nv 2020 secretariat. Central to its vision by 2020 is the aspiration to ‘’achieve high economic growth and development geared towards rekindling the hopes and aspirations of the people with a strong desire towards the full realization, implementation and completion of projects as well as rehabilitation of existing economic and social infrastructure’’. Meanwhile, six states – Adamawa, Niger, Cross River, Kaduna, Enugu and Ondo – drawn from the six geo-political zones, have been selected to serve on the Central Working Group, which has been charged with the responsibility of harmonizing all reports, based on the quality of their reports.
